Q: Does Autograf have real people to help me with my hair decisions?

A: Yes! Autograf was founded in the back room of Dawn's salon, was developed for and by hair and skin people and still is flanked by industry people. Dawn teaches in cosmetology, barbering, aesthetics and manicuring programs and is an active member of the National Cosmetology Association and Hair America.

Q: Do I have to always buy Autograf's Dare To Wear Black^TM on line or can I buy it soemwhere locally?

A: We encourage people to buy it in their local area so as we develop more contacts, we are posting their locations on our web site. We are committed to remaining withing the professioanal provider network, though and you will not find it in drug or grocery stores! If you have a salon or stylist you wish to refer to us, we will be more than happy to introduce them to Autogarf and answer any questions they may have in person. (well, at least by phone!)

Q: I don't have a computer ... I am at the library now ... can I get information at home by mail?

A: We are happy to provide you with as much information as we can by mail. Autograf was started in 1975 so all of our information has been carved into rocks by monks in Seattle. You may also call our toll free number to speak with Dawn herself! Please remember when you call that Dawn can serve you best while awake and that we are on the West Coast of the United States!

Q: Tell me about the ingredient, captan. Isn't it a pesticide for farming?

A: Yes, captan has been used for decades to help protect fruits and vegetables. It has also been used in the veterinary industry for treating dermatitis. For many years it was used as a preservative in cosmetics as well. We are  preparing an entire section on our ingredients. for now, I will you a brief answer:

captan is a germicide, fungicide & bactericide (it kills bacteria and prevents fungal spores from germinating).
captan is non-toxic when taken orally (it does not kill lab animals even at 5 grams/kg).
There are no reports of fish kills due to captan (although in artificially high laboratory doses adverse effects are seen).
single exposures to the skin with captan are non-irritating.
very few people (only about 5% of the population) can become sensitized to captan.
captan is not mutagenic in people.
captan is not a frank teratogen (does not cause birth defects).
captan is not carcinogenic in people (only mouse intestines at very high doses).
EPA has removed the “B2” cancer classification and now notes very low risk.
captan is not a reproductive toxin.
captan's action is restricted to local sites; it acts only on contact and not systemically.
captan degrades very quickly and does not build up in the environment or your body.
people who come in contact with captan as used in our shampoo are not at risk for adverse effects such as cancer, mutations, or birth defects.
Since captan can be irritating to the eyes, be sure to keep the shampoo out of your eyes!
 
And now ... on to your "Personal Problems"!!!

Q: Is there really any help for hair that has been stripped and feels like straw?

Q: What can be done when high humidity or dew point in the summer causes my hair to curl up and be fuzzy?

A: The solution for your problem and the solution for straight fine hair are very similar (even though your hair types are not!) Q: Why is some hair fine, or limp? Are there really different hair types?

A: Good question. Yes, there are different hair tupes ... and conditions. Fine and limp hair are 2 entirely different topics. Fine hair can be limp or whiskery or anywhere in between ... course hair can also have the same variations. Hair must be addressed as a kind and a quality of hair. We have developed charts to help you decide on your own needs now and as they change with your continued use and lifestyle changes.

Q: I don't believe that I have dandruff, just some dryness. How do I handle that?

A:  The best resource for moisturizing hair and skin without damaging it, is collagen substantive protein. All Autograf products have collagen in them so I enourage you to try them. Leaving them on for a few minutes magnifies their effectiveness so take your time while you test them. If collagen alone doesn't resolve your dryness symptoms, you may need a bit of treatment. Q: Do I have hair?
